Lights “on” warning beeper.

The following information gives details of how to connect up a “Lights On” warning beeper to the earlier supras that don’t have this function already fitted.

The wiring information is based on a UK 1991 turbo.

The aim here is to switch on a beeper when a door is opened and the side lights are switched on.  To do this we need to pick up the switched 12 VDC from the side light circuit and the switched 0 VDC from the dome light circuit.  Both these are easy to get to from the passengers footwell.

You will need to remove the trim in the passenger footwell, this includes the under tray, glove box & side kick panel.

Once you have done this you should be able to gain access to the passenger side door loom and the glove compartment light.

I would suggest you mount your beeper somewhere around the glove compartment area so, you will probably need to extend the leads of the buzzer to connect it across the two points below.

Locate the passenger side door loom connector where it plugs into the car loom and remove it, you will need to depress the little tab to pull the connector free, don’t depress the tab too much as you don’t want to make it cry or require medication for depression afterwards.

On this connector you are looking for a RED / WHITE (stripe) wire, this is our switched 0 VDC.  It supplies the red door marker light with power.  The GND / - / 0V of your beeper will connect onto this wire.

Now locate the glove compartment light.

You are looking for the GREEN wire to this lamp as, this is a switched +12 VDC supply fed from the side light circuit so, turns on and off with the side lights.

The VDC / + of your sounder will connect onto this wire.

With the beeper connected across these two points you should now get a warning tone whenever your doors open and the side lights are on.  This should irritate you enough to turn your side lights off!

Maplin electronics do a range of Beepers and sounders “off the shelf” you just need to make sure the operating voltage is suitable for 12 VDC.  One suggestion is HERE  The main page HERE should you want a warning that plays jingle bells.
